  • Cooking skills utilize a variety of academic disciplines
  • The cooking curriculum at KMS takes place in our original "home-chef" state-of-the-art teaching kitchen designed and stocked by Viking. Under the watchful eye of instructor, Roberta DesBouillons of Apron Strings Cooking School; children learn to cook and bake and work safely in a kitchen. They learn proper kitchen procedures, how to read recipes and food labels as well as good nutrition practices. They explore creative "hands on" food ideas with fresh and seasonal ingredients which encourage a lifelong appreciation for healthy eating. Some skills learned include time management, math, dexterity, science, and teamwork.

  • KMS collaborates with IDEO Design in Palo Alto
As part of the cooking classes the elementary students worked  with the internationally famous design firm, IDEO, in designing a new snack creation. The children were divided into 3 groups: sweet, savory, and crunchy and then given a variety of ingredients to create their own delicious snacks. At a later date the group took a field trip to the IDEO main offices in Palo Alto to tour their design facilities.
